Jihoon on YG TREASURE BOX
Jihoon was first introduced to the media through a 2018 YG survival program YG TREASURE BOX. He participated in the show as a vocalist. There it was revealed that he once left the agency before he joined the survival show.
Jihoon joined YG on April 10, 2018. He trained in YG for more than a year along with other YG trainees. After a few monthly evaluations from December 2017, he didn’t receive any positive feedback or signs of improvement. Eventually, he left YG in march 2018. Later, the leading producer of YG label, Yang Hyunsuk himself invited Jihoon back to the label. YG gave Jihoon another chance to prove himself and join the survival program.
Jihoon on MAGNUM
At first, he wasn’t in the initial lineup for TREASURE member. After the survival show, YG TREASURE BOX was over, YG announced the debut of another team “MAGNUM”. Jihoon along with other 5 trainees was announced as a member of MAGNUM. He was the leader of the group MAGNUM. The YG label got many accusations regarding the group’s lineup and announcement. The fans of the survival show requested the label to let the members of both team debut as one.
Later, on January 6, 2020, the entertainment label released a statement regarding the debut of both TREASURE and MAGNUM as a whole new team TREASURE 13. the entertainment label started to post different contents of the group like TMI episodes, Treasure map, etc. on their official sites. On 30th January 2020, the group released the performance video for their pre-debut track “Going Crazy”.
TREASURE DEBUT
Jihoon debuted as one of the leaders of TREASURE along with Hyunsuk on August 7, 2020. He is in charge of the vocalist and dancer in the group. TREASURE debuted with their single album THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER ONE. TREASURE released two more single albums in 2020, THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER TWO and THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER THREE on the 18th of September and the 6th of November respectively.
2021 January 11, TREASURE released their first full studio album “THE FIRST STEP: TREASURE EFFECT”. TREASURE also released the Japanese digital single “Beautiful” on 14 February which was previously released on January 22 as the ending theme song for the anime black clover. On March 31st, 2021 the group also released the Japanese version of their first full album. The group released a mini album THE SECOND STEP: CHAPTER ONE on 15 February 2022.
